Connecting a Nation: How Fidium is Expanding America’s Fiber Future

Connecting a Nation: How Fidium is Expanding America’s Fiber Future
  • PublishedJuly 1, 2026

Fiber is the communications infrastructure that will power America’s next chapter, and Fidium is leading the creation of that future-ready foundation.

Across America, affordable and reliable internet connectivity has become as essential as roads, bridges and power lines. It supports the way people work, learn, receive care, start businesses, and stay connected to the world around them.

Yet millions of homes and businesses, especially in unserved and underserved communities, still lack access to highly reliable digital infrastructure. As connectivity demands grow, residents businesses, data centers, government, education and health care institutions need networks that can keep up.

Fiber infrastructure and broadband connectivity are helping meet that need. By transmitting data at the speed of light, fiber delivers the speed, capacity and reliability required for a more connected future.

Fidium is leading the way in the country’s digital transformation, investing in expanding fiber infrastructure and connectivity across its national footprint, from small towns to growing regional economies.

Fiber Internet: The Great Equalizer

“Fiber is an equalizer that enables the American dream,” said Gaurav Juneja, President and CEO of Fidium. “It ensures that where you live no longer limits what you can achieve.”

Whether in a busy downtown, a suburban neighborhood or at the end of a back road, fiber delivers the same high-speed internet performance needed to participate in today’s digital economy.

Fiber expands access to reliable high-speed connectivity that improves educational outcomes, increases telehealth usage, reduces healthcare costs, and drives economic opportunity.

For communities across the country, it means residents and businesses can grow, compete and thrive without leaving the places they love.

Bringing Connectivity to Rural America

“A lot of providers would choose to build in dense metro areas,” said Gabe Waggoner, Chief Network Officer of Fidium. “Fidium is choosing to build in places that are often harder to reach, including rural and underserved communities.”

Through $2 billion in targeted network investment and hundreds of public-private partnerships, Fidium has expanded high-speed fiber internet access to more than 1.5 million homes across its footprint, and is on track to reach 2 million by 2027, connecting communities that too often get left behind.

That impact is especially evident in states like Maine, where rugged terrain and a high concentration of rural communities make broadband expansion more complex. In partnership with the Maine Connectivity Authority, Fidium helped make Lincoln County the first county in Maine with fiber access in every town — reaching more than 36,000 homes and businesses and helping bridge the digital divide. This partnership serves as a blueprint for overcoming barriers and expanding future-ready connectivity in underserved communities nationwide.

A Fiber-First Future

“As a company committed to connecting rural America for more than 130 years, we’ve continually evolved to meet the needs of the communities we serve, and today that means building a fiber-first future to ensure more Americans have access to the opportunities that fiber connectivity provides,” said Waggoner.

Unlike legacy networks, fiber offers virtually unlimited scalability and the capacity to support AI and other emerging technologies.

“Fiber is the essential communications infrastructure that will power America’s next chapter, and we’re proud of the role Fidium is playing in helping build that future-ready foundation for the communities we serve,” said Juneja.
