Genera harnesses the potential of the earth’s natural cycle by combining advanced technology and regenerative agricultural practices to create commercially compostable, grass-based fiber packaging built on a simple purpose — to enrich our partners’ ESG initiatives and to sustain and conserve the land where our sustainable packaging starts. Our custom products are grown and made in the USA, offering supply chain security and support of American jobs and farm families.
Genera is the leading domestic manufacturer of compostable packaging, made from grasses grown on American farmland leveraging sustainable agriculture practices and advanced technology. We are committed to producing high-quality products that help brands achieve sustainability goals, deliver on consumer preferences and strengthen the circular economy.
Compostable Packaging Made in the USA
Based in East Tennessee, Genera operates one of the largest non-wood pulp mill in North America. As a fully integrated manufacturer, we oversee every part of our production, from growing perennial grasses and converting them into raw pulp material, to manufacturing compostable packaging and other environmentally friendly products. With the scale to support the largest brand owners’ packaging demands, our commitment to domestic production stems from our drive to create and support local economic circularity.
Supply Surety with Transparent Eco-Friendly Materials
With so much of our economy relying on imported goods, predictable and reliable supply is a concern for many of the customers in the industries Genera serves. The state-of-the-art production facility offers over 2.5 billion units of capacity to brand owners that seek to reduce the risk of volatile overseas supplier bases.
We are proud to make our products from regenerative grasses that are grown locally within a small delivery radius of our production. Having close control of our raw materials, pulping process and product thermoforming, we can provide a transparent chain of custody for the creation of our plant-based packaging that is unmatched in the industry. We can literally point to the stems of grass standing in the field today and convert them to protein trays tomorrow.
Outside of the sustainable packaging, our production operation also generates market pulp that has uses in paper products and animal bedding, as well as lignin rich syrup that has many industrial applications.
Plant-Based Packaging that Delivers on Sustainability
All our products are rooted in sustainable agriculture, made from grasses grown on American farmland. These regenerative perennial grasses enrich soil health and sequester 1-2 tons of carbon per acre per year. Furthermore, we often grow our grasses on underutilized or unproductive land, helping to convert that land into income for farmers and landowners.
Sustainable Packaging that Enables Society’s Zero Waste Goals
As domestic supply chains become more and more important to the American economy, Genera’s full scale manufacturing operation is poised to support brand owner desires for more dependable and secure supply chains. Societal trends will continue to push manufacturers to reduce the use of plastic-based packaging, leading governmental bodies to legislate zero waste targets for composting and recycling. Plant-based packaging is the future and Genera is proud to be among those companies leading the change.
