From early products characterised by long durability and high efficiency to current efforts which contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the organisation has consistently focused on responsible business practices, with sustainable cleaning technology playing a crucial role in its strategy.
Nilfisk’s ambition for sustainability begins with meaningful innovation. By integrating smart thinking with advanced technology, the company ensures its products protect the environment and support people in achieving more. Historically, Nilfisk has focused on climate action, aligning efforts with the latest climate science to track performance against ambitious targets. As one of the first in the cleaning industry to adopt science-based climate action, Nilfisk works within the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) framework to set and achieve these goals.
The company’s commitment to sustainability is reflected in its focus on five selected Sustainable Development Goals. Nilfisk aims to simplify its sustainability communication with customers and suppliers by providing clear and trustworthy environmental, social, and governance (ESG) data, following globally recognised standards, while using established ESG ratings when engaging with suppliers, promoting transparency and comparability across borders.
Driving lasting change through collaboration
Collaboration is key to achieving lasting change in the cleaning industry. Nilfisk values its partnerships and builds trust by delivering high-quality, durable products. One notable product, the SC550, exemplifies its sustainable design strategy, balancing usability, and environmental sustainability. Based on internal studies, it is 28% more energy efficient than previous models, and uses as much as 40% less water and 60% less detergent, compared to machines without similar technology.
Looking ahead, Nilfisk aims to significantly reduce its emissions by 2045. The organisation has set ambitious targets for 2030, aiming for a 35% absolute reduction in scopes 1 and 2 emissions, and a 48% reduction in emission intensity in scope 3. Nilfisk calls for industry-wide collaboration to improve transparency in product claims related to sustainability, emphasising the shared responsibility to provide customers with clear and comparable information. Through joint efforts, Nilfisk seeks to create a cleaner future for generations.
