Zero carbon emissions and fostering ecosystems
A key competitive strength of Sani/Ikos Group is its unwavering commitment to sustainability at the highest standards, alongside ambitious environmental goals for the future. Eleni Andreadis, ESG Senior Director, explains that the Group has already integrated strict ESG criteria into its strategy and operations for over 15 years and is a member of the UN Global Compact. Through the creation of bespoke, innovative programmes such as Sani Green and Ikos Green, Sani/Ikos drives initiatives focused on environmental protection, community support, and local economic growth.
“Our key environmental commitments include achieving net zero carbon emissions and zero waste-to-landfill, alongside safeguarding the biodiversity of critical local habitats,” says Andreadis. With a 2030 target for net zero carbon emissions, 20 years ahead of the EU’s goals, Sani/Ikos Group is focused on major investments in energy efficiency, renewable energy sources, electrification of facilities and fleet, as well as carbon absorption and offsets. All new and renovated properties are heading for LEED and BREEAM certifications, adhering to top energy-efficiency standards.

Responding to evolving traveller expectations
“Apart from the need to respond to urgent sustainability challenges, as well as drive the transition to a more sustainable and better future for local communities, we’re also experiencing a great in shift in traveller expectations. To name one study of many on the subject, Booking.com’s 2024 research shows that over 75% of global travellers now prioritise sustainable travel. Other studies highlight the importance of addressing climate change impacts and effective destination management, with safety also on the forefront of visitors’ minds. This shift is echoed by employees, investors and local communities alike, who expect a strong sustainability strategy and transparency in performance,” says Eleni Andreadis.
Sani/Ikos Group’s commitment to local communities extends beyond the environment, with the Group supporting over 40 non-profits annually with a focus on vulnerable children and women, as well as promoting employment opportunities with a special emphasis on gender equality.
