Saudi Arabia is shifting its focus towards renewable energy, aligning with global trends that call for cleaner, more sustainable power sources. ACWA Power is at the heart of this transformation, leading large-scale renewable projects that leverage the country’s abundant natural resources. The company is heavily invested in solar and wind power, which form the backbone of its renewable energy portfolio. In 2023 alone, ACWA Power added 7.1 GW of renewable capacity, nearly doubling its flexible generation energy additions for the same period.
Leading in Innovation

As one of the largest operators of storage solutions, ACWA Power manages almost 20 GWh between Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Concentrated Solar Power (CSP).
In addition to renewable energy, ACWA Power is leading the charge in green hydrogen production, with its flagship project, the NEOM Green Hydrogen plant, set to become the world’s largest of its kind. This ambitious venture is designed to produce 1.2 million tonnes of green ammonia annually, equivalent to 600 tonnes of green hydrogen per day1 – helping to decarbonise industries that have traditionally been difficult to shift away from fossil fuels. Once completed, the NEOM project will mitigate millions of metric tonnes of carbon emissions annually and position Saudi Arabia as a global leader in green hydrogen technology.
Water scarcity is another critical issue ACWA Power is tackling head-on. As the world’s largest private water desalination company, ACWA Power operates 16 desalination plants across four countries, including the world’s largest reverse osmosis plant, Taweelah in Abu Dhabi, with a capacity of 909,000 m³/day. These facilities are vital in providing fresh water to regions facing severe water shortages, with the Rabigh 4 IWP Project expected to enhance water security further by 2026.
A Visionary Strategy for the Future

ACWA Power’s impact extends beyond environmental sustainability. In 2023, the company generated an estimated total of 30,000 jobs in Saudi Arabia (direct and indirect, permanent and temporary). By 2030, ACWA Power plans to triple its business and generate a total of 200,000 jobs in the Kingdom, demonstrating how sustainable energy initiatives can be a powerful engine for economic development.
