Leading in exotic produce, Nature’s Pride drives chain-wide collaboration for the benefit of people and nature.
Our current food system has a big impact on people and nature. With nearly half of habitable land used for agriculture, improving this system is key to tackling global challenges like social well-being, water, biodiversity, and climate. Nature’s Pride, a leading supplier of exotic fruits and vegetables, is dedicated to driving sustainable practices throughout its global food chain.
With nearly 400 growers across 53 countries and over 200 different exotic fruits and vegetables, the company tackles key challenges and leads by working collaboratively to enhance sustainability for the benefit of people and nature, ensuring that everyone can enjoy these efforts today and tomorrow.
Care for people and nature always at the heart of the business
Since Nature’s Pride’s establishment almost 25 years ago, care for people and nature is always at the heart of its business. From the fertile soil of their growers to the first bite, they believe that every link in the chain deserves the genuine care, fair reward and personal attention. Nature’s Pride has already made significant strides as a frontrunner in sustainability in their value chain.
They were the first in the fruits and vegetables sector to establish social wellbeing guidelines, setting a new standard for fair practices, resulting in currently close to 100% of their product portfolio being socially certified. And they lead in promoting responsible water use and ambitious chain wide CO2 reduction targets.
Achieving Balance Between Profit and Purpose
In 2018, Nature’s Pride launched a Sustainable Business Plan aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, showing their commitment to comprehensive change and inspiring others in the industry to follow. However, they have learned that merely aligning with these goals is not enough. Everyone in the organization should feel a shared responsibility to take care of people and nature. Also seeking external input and guidance, such as from the SDGs and NGOs, helps validate and refine their approach.
And last but not least building a better world requires collaboration, balancing short-term profits with long-term benefits for people and nature – a challenging task. Significant effort is often required to persuade others to collectively embrace these sustainable practices. However, they believe that intrinsic motivation and inspiring others can drive substantial collective impact. These learnings are reflected in their People and Nature strategy towards 2028, which guide their work in people well-being, water, biodiversity and climate.
Inspiring Collective Action for a Resilient Future
As Nature’s Pride continues on this path, their commitment to sustainability remains steadfast, driven by a vision of a world where business success aligns harmoniously with the wellbeing of people and nature. By integrating sustainable practices into every aspect of their operations, they exemplify what it means to lead by example in an industry that must evolve to meet the needs of future generations.
Nature’s Pride recognizes that true progress requires a continuous collective effort, one that reaches beyond the organization to involve partners, stakeholders, and communities around the globe. Through their ongoing dedication and collaborative spirit, they are not only cultivating a healthier food system but also inspiring others to join in building a brighter, more resilient future for all.
