How Rubber is Revolutionizing Animal Welfare

How Rubber is Revolutionizing Animal Welfare
  • PublishedOctober 16, 2024

Thanks to KRAIBURG sustainability and environmental protection are now making their way into animal barns promoting eco-friendly practices.

The rubber factory KRAIBURG Elastik is a skilled specialist in the production of rubber mats. Thanks to a unique process, over 200 employees produce rubber barn flooring for animal husbandry. The secret: well thought-out upcycling!

Sustainable rubber cycle – since 1968

Company founder Peter Schmidt wanted to give old car tires a second life. In 1968, this vision became reality: today around 7.5 million car tires are recycled into rubber mats for animal barns every year. KRAIBURG uses the important properties of tires – dimensional stability, elasticity and abrasion resistance – and reuses the valuable rubber they contain in a way that conserves resources. Production is almost waste-free: a sustainable rubber cycle is created.

Animal welfare and environmental protection hand in hand

Thanks to the rubber mats, animals all over the world benefit from a soft, non-slip surface on which they can lie comfortably and walk safely. This has been proven to increase well-being and contributes to healthy, productive animals. Modern barn floor coverings help farmers to make their work processes more efficient. Due to the high quality of the raw materials, inferior fillers are completely avoided. Regular tests, e.g. by the DLG, guarantee that the products are harmless to humans, animals and the environment.

Reduce emissions and conserve resources

KRAIBURG’s commitment to animal-friendly, low-emission and efficient animal husbandry with resource-saving, environmentally friendly raw materials paves the way for environmentally conscious livestock farming. The company wants to continue to make a valuable contribution to feeding and preserving the world in the future.
