D6 focuses on food packaging as a crucial component of the circular economy, working to divert billions of pounds of plastics away from landfills. With our global scale and partnerships with major retailers, CPG companies, and private brand copackers, D6 is uniquely positioned to lead the shift toward a circular economy.
- Over 80% of our PET products contain pre/post-consumer recycled content.
- 100% of our aluminum products are made with recycled aluminum.
Challenges to Achieving a Closed-Loop System
Currently, about 5% of plastics in the U.S. are recycled. Many forms of plastic cannot be recycled in existing systems, which means they often “leave the loop” after initial recycling. Inconsistent recycling standards add to consumer confusion, leading to contamination and discouragement. Tray-to-tray recycling, offers a new closed-loop system that extends the lifecycle of plastics.
D6’s Three-Pronged Approach: Innovate, Invest, Inspire
- Innovate: D6 collaborates with Walmart and Sam’s Club to pioneer a direct-from-consumer recycling model through Community Recycling Units (CRU), especially in areas lacking traditional recycling programs.
- Invest: We allocate significant resources to our recycling operations, creating a repeatable, closed-loop process from raw materials to the shelf, and back again.
- Inspire: We engage with communities to raise awareness about recycling’s impact, demonstrating CRU best practices at local and global levels.
Long-Term Sustainability Goals
Our strategy is built around three core commitments:
- Commitment to Our Planet: We maintain a transparent, closed-loop recycling system to minimize environmental impact and extend the lifecycle of plastics.
- Commitment to Our Customers: We partner with customers to integrate their sustainability goals into our mission, driving innovation and measurable progress.
- Commitment to Our Communities: We provide community-facing recycling units at no cost, empowering individuals to actively participate in the circular economy.
D6 is focused on making recycling more transparent, auditable, and scalable. We aim to engage consumers directly in the recycling process, building visibility and trust in their role in waste reduction.
Alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals
D6’s environmental initiatives align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 9, 12, 13, and 14, emphasizing innovation, responsible production, and urgent climate action. Our social efforts, inspired by SDG 11, reflect our commitment to fostering sustainable communities and ensuring employee well-being. Our governance, guided by SDG 8, emphasizes integrity, transparency, and accountability.
About D6
Founded in 2014, D6 leads in sustainable packaging and domestic mechanical recycling. Our vision is rooted in transparency, traceability, auditability, and accountability, aiming to become the world’s first carbon-negative packaging company. By managing materials with the highest environmental standards, D6 proves that sustainability is an achievable closed-loop reality. We utilize state-of-the-art recycling and wash line operations in Texas and have pioneered tray-to-tray recycling in partnership with Walmart, Sam’s Club, and other corporations.
A Shared Vision for the Future
D6 seeks to transform the industry and achieve carbon-negative status by 2035. As we design, manufacture, and recycle with intent, we are committed to reshaping the plastics, packaging, and recycling industry.
