Automobili Lamborghini: Driving Sustainable Change Within the Production of Super Sports Cars

It all started in 1963 with Ferruccio Lamborghini, whose vision was born from a challenge that motivated him to create one of the most iconic automotive brands in the world. A trailblazer in every sense, Lamborghini aimed to craft sports cars that would exceed all expectations, starting with the Miura, the first true supercar of its time1.

Today, Automobili Lamborghini remains rooted in Sant’Agata Bolognese, near Bologna, producing some of the most recognizable and coveted super sports cars worldwide. Instantly identifiable by their bold lines and unmistakable proportions, Lamborghini’s design DNA fuses technological innovation, exceptional performance, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.

A Mission to Enact Change

Since 2021, Automobili Lamborghini has been executing “Direzione Cor Tauri,” its most ambitious sustainability strategy to date. Marking the largest financial investment in the brand’s history, this initiative goes far beyond the hybridization of the product range. It embraces a broader mission, one that involves the entire value chain, from production to suppliers and logistics, while also fostering a corporate culture that prioritizes well-being, diversity, equity, and inclusion. This approach embodies the values of brave, unexpected, and authentic, and aligns with the Driving Humans Beyond mission to push past limits, standards, and conventions.

Electrification and Decarbonization Across the Value Chain

Following “Direzione Cor Tauri,” Lamborghini has committed to extend electrification and decarbonization efforts across the entire value chain. It began as early as 2009, with the installation of one of the largest photovoltaic systems in the automotive industry2. By 2015, Lamborghini’s Sant’Agata Bolognese headquarters achieved carbon neutrality on balance3, thanks to the use of 100% renewable energy sources, trigeneration and district heating systems, and infrastructure built with sustainability in mind.

This momentum has only grown. Between 2014 and 2024, the company reduced CO₂ emissions from its production site by 49%4, while doubling the facility’s footprint, demonstrating that growth and responsibility can go hand in hand. The site now also features water-based paints, condensation water reuse systems, and circular economy initiatives for materials like carbon fiber and leather. New buildings adhere to certified environmental standards to ensure minimal impact from the ground up.

The company’s sustainability efforts extend into its procurement and transport operations. Since 2019, Lamborghini has required its suppliers to meet an S-Rating, a sustainability assessment covering ESG factors, making it a baseline for collaboration. In logistics, the brand has shifted toward greener transport: from 2019 rail use rose from 4% to 35%, while air transport dropped from 18% to 1%, significantly lowering emissions5.

2024 marked a historic year. Alongside record sales, in 18 months Lamborghini launched three new models, Revuelto, Urus SE, and Temerario, completing its transition to a fully hybrid lineup. It is the first super sports car brand to offer an entirely electrified range6, aligning performance with sustainability.

Commitment to the Future

This transition has already delivered tangible impact: Urus SE emits 80% less CO₂ than the Urus S, and the Revuelto 35% less than the Aventador7. With this transformation, Lamborghini achieved both commercial success and reinforced its role as a pioneer in sustainable luxury.

Through Direzione Cor Tauri, Lamborghini commits to full carbon neutrality by 2050, driving not just cars, but lasting change.
