Pioneering AI-Infused Education at DeVry
Workforce demands are changing. DeVry prepares students with a powerful blend of human insight and AI-infused education.
Innovating the future of work with AI-infused education and human insight
The age of artificial intelligence is here, and in nearly every industry, employers look for AI fluency in their workers. Today’s students understand that, too, and they expect to quickly learn practical, career-relevant skills. DeVry University is rising to the moment.
“Everyone needs upskilling and reskilling to match tech speed, especially as it relates to artificial intelligence,” says DeVry University President and CEO Elise Awwad. DeVry has been leading the way with AI in higher education since 2020 when the university created its first machine learning coursework. Now, DeVry is embedding AI literacy into every class. “By the end of 2026,” Awwad says, “AI concepts and tools will be integrated into 100% of courses, ensuring that students across disciplines, from business to technology to healthcare, develop the ability to understand and apply AI in their fields.”
To connect AI literacy to career-readiness, classes are taught by industry-informed faculty who provide personalized guidance at every step. For an extra layer of support, a 24/7 AI Learning Assistant is part of each course, answering more than 90% of routine questions day or night. Paired with faculty expertise, this personal learning model provides both human insights and accessible AI tools to support the needs of working adults.
AI fluency is the new workforce transformation
As workplace needs change, upskilling can give workers the tech skills employers look for. “Recent McKinsey research shows that nearly half of companies in their study struggle to fill data, analytics, and AI roles,” says DeVry’s Chief Administrative Officer David Barnett. To help fill that gap, the university developed DeVryPro, short-form courses hyper-focused on today’s in-demand AI and leadership skills. Through these online, self-paced classes—supported by DeVryPro’s AI Learning Coach—working professionals can upskill strategically for today’s careers. “AI is bigger than a technology implementation,” Barnett says. “When matched properly with human intelligence, it will fundamentally transform organizations.”
As AI skills continue to influence the future of work, durable skills remain valuable. The ability to apply critical thinking, decision-making, and ethical reasoning is key for working professionals’ success. Blending technical skills with those that are uniquely human is the solution for career resilience, and DeVry is putting that formula into practice every day as the university helps define the future of higher learning.
